The story is rooted in Lacey Schwartz's Jewish family experience.The narrative follows her upbringing in a white, Jewish family and her discovery, at the age of 18, that her biological father is African-American. Lacey continued to believe throughout her childhood that her "Jewishness" accounted for her "otherness" until, during her college years, she decided to ask for the truth from her family.
The panel includes the film's director, Lacey Schwartz and its outreach director, Collier Myerson.

2013 Commission on the Status of Women Side Event
Women Helping Women: Putting Your Life Back Together
The Temple of Understanding in conjunction with the for-profit company The Business of Me will present a Side Event action project designed to reduce the re-victimization rate for survivors of abuse. The March 7 panel discussion will include:
1. An overview of select initiatives implemented by the organizations, businesses and countries represented by panel members
2. Panel discussion of the importance of reducing and/or ending violence against women
3. Presentation of a free training program for professionals working in the field. Successful completion of the training program will result in expansion of one’s ability to present, moderate and track the efficacy of a life sufficiency skills program for women who have endured abuse.
Our Side Event supports the theme for this year’s CSW57, Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.
PANELISTS INCLUDES
Marie Norden - A Swedish Social Democratic politician. She has been a member of the Riksdag since 2006. In her capacity as Deputy Convener of PGA’s Gender, Equality and Population Programme, she advises staff on women’s empowerment and gender equality initiatives to be developed and implemented.
Ibrahim Ramey - Former Director of the Civil Rights Division of the Muslim American Society. He is a Board member of the Muslim Women Institute and the Temple of Understanding.
Pam Rajput PhD - An Indian academic turned internationally renowned activist engaged in the women's movement since the mid-70s. She is the founder and Director of the Centre for Women's Studies & Development and the Head of the Department of Political Science at Panjab University.
Rev. Doyeon Park (performing a meditative reflection) - A minister of Manhattan Won Buddhist Temple and Alternative Representative of Won Buddhism to the UN and Inter-religious Affairs, she also serves as Buddhist Chaplain at Columbia University and New York University.
Nancy Salamone - (panelist and moderator) – An author, speaker and advocate against domestic violence. She is the creator of The Business of Me (www.thebusinessofme.com) a program that works with survivors to create life sufficiency skills and help break the cycle of violence.

*A Season for Nonviolence is a national educational, media, and grassroots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower our lives and our communities. It was inspired by the anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and now also honors César Chavez.

in cooperation with: the United Nations Environment Programme and the Temple of Understanding
