Bhai Sahib has been awarded multiple honorary doctorates for his outstanding service to faith propagation, education, and community cohesion.
Bhai Sahib, Mohinder Singh, OBE, KSG is a renowned interfaith leader and civil society champion whose life’s work embodies dedication to peace, reconciliation, and service to humanity. After a 27-year career as a civil/structural engineer and housing expert in East and Central Africa, Bhai Sahib retired early in 1989 to focus on selfless service. Since 1995, he has overseen the daily operations of the largest Sikh place of worship in Europe—dedicating an average of 12 hours daily to community engagement and development.
In 2010, the apex Sikh organisation awarded him the title ‘Bhai Sahib’ for his visionary contributions to faith propagation, interfaith understanding, and the preservation of Sikh heritage—making him the first British Sikh to receive this honor. He is celebrated internationally as a recipient of the Juliet Hollister Award from the Temple of Understanding and as a leading figure in multiple global interfaith bodies. Bhai Sahib serves as a Trustee and Co-President of Religions for Peace International, President of Religions for Peace UK, and is associated with the Elijah Board of World’s Religious Leaders, the European Council of Religious Leaders, and other influential groups.
Bhai Sahib’s commitment to bridge-building extends to educational, social, and inter-religious forums. He is Chair of the Museum of World’s Religions (UK), Patron of United Religions Initiative UK, and an ambassador for the Globalisation for Common Good Initiative.
In recognition of his relentless efforts to promote harmony, he was made a Papal Knight Commander of the Order of St Gregory the Great by the Vatican in 2012 and received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II in 2015. Bhai Sahib has also been awarded multiple honorary doctorates for his outstanding service to faith propagation, education, and community cohesion.
