“Pilgrim Soul” is an intimate filmed conversation with Dr. Karan Singh—prince, politician, scholar, poet, and lifelong spiritual seeker—captured through the loving, curious lens of his daughter.

In this reflective portrait, he looks back on an extraordinary life that began as the much-celebrated only heir of Maharaja Hari Singh of Jammu and Kashmir, shaped by a village-born mother’s music and devotion, a distant but farsighted father, elite schooling, and a life-altering illness that sent him alone to an American hospital at sixteen. Out of those early fractures, he discovers inner reserves of courage and resilience that later allow him to navigate exile, shifting political tides, and the transition from feudal prince to democratic leader.

Across the video, he revisits pivotal relationships—with his parents, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, his late wife Asha, and his grandchildren—while weaving in the poetry, music, and philosophy that have anchored him: Vedanta, Kashmir Shaivism, and a deep commitment to interfaith harmony.

The film’s title comes from the Yeats line he recites with visible emotion: “one man loved the pilgrim soul in you.” What emerges is not just a public life on display, but the inner journey of a man who has tried to hold power, responsibility, beauty, and spirituality together—and who, at ninety, looks back with equanimity, gratitude, and no regrets.
