Twenty years ago, the Temple of Understanding opened its doors to its first group of summer interns. Since 2005, hundreds of young people have passed through that program, sat in those same rooms near the UN, prepared their first presentations, and walked away changed in ways that are not always visible at the time. Many of them are now years into careers in diplomacy, international affairs, law, and policy, carrying pieces of that early experience with them into rooms far larger than the ones they started in. This session is a chance to bring some of them back together, as a facilitated conversation among people who once sat where this year’s interns are sitting now. It is a space to reflect honestly on what the internship gave them, where their paths actually led (not always where they expected), and what they have come to make of the institutions they now work inside, the UN, foreign ministries, NGOs, and multilateral bodies.
