Harmeet Kaur Kamboj: Assistant Director of Workplace Strategy for Interfaith America
Harmeet Kaur Kamboj is a Sikh American interfaith scholar and advocate, advancing religious literacy, equity, and inclusion for minoritized faith communities through leadership and education.
Harmeet Kaur Kamboj (they/them) is a Sikh American interfaith organizer, public scholar, educator, and artist dedicated to uplifting marginalized voices and fostering religious inclusion across diverse communities in the United States. As Assistant Director of Workplace Strategy at Interfaith America, Harmeet spearheads initiatives that help organizations cultivate environments of religious literacy, respect, and equity. Their commitment to interfaith advocacy is deeply connected to lived experience; the Oak Creek gurdwara shooting shaped their passion for centering Sikh American needs and supporting the resilience and visibility of minoritized faith communities.
Harmeet’s leadership spans policy, education, and community organizing. Prior to Interfaith America, they served as Senior State Policy Manager for the Sikh Coalition, advancing inclusive K-12 education, strengthening hate crimes reporting, and protecting religious freedom. Harmeet co-founded the Coalition for Religious Freedom in Public Schools, led efforts to combat book bans in seven states, and advocated for AANHPI history inclusion in New York State’s curriculum. Their work also involved collaborating with partners in New York City to advance religious literacy and voter education.
Academically, Harmeet holds a Master of Sacred Theology and an MA in Interreligious Engagement from Union Theological Seminary, alongside a BA in English from the College of William & Mary. Their scholarship and editorial work, particularly in the Faith in Full Color zine, center the experiences of communities pushed to the margins of the interfaith movement and religious spaces. Through teaching, dancing, and writing, Harmeet brings creativity and compassion to their work, shaping programs and conversations that move interfaith communities toward justice, empathy, and collective empowerment.
Their commitment to equity and bridgebuilding has made them a respected voice in both local and national interfaith circles, consistently advocating for anti-racism, religious freedom, and the dignity of all through thoughtful dialogue and community engagement.
