Meet our 2021 TOU interns! We are very pleased to welcome interns from around the world virtually this summer! During our first week, the TOU interns have been engaged in exploring the work of the Temple of Understanding and learning more about the United Nations as they begin to think about the topics they will be researching throughout the program. We are looking forward to participating in HLPF, hearing from speakers on numerous topics, experiencing religious site visits, and more over the next few weeks!
Kamilla Bakirova, USA
Hello! My name is Kamilla Bakirova, and I am from New York City. I am a 19 year old rising sophomore at St. John’s University majoring in Biology. I am excited to work with the Temple of Understanding to focus on my interest in women’s health. Through my past volunteering positions at local women’s health clinics, I believe that women’s health is very interconnected with almost all of the Sustainable Development Goals. A woman’s well being heavily depends on the sustainability of her community, her occupation, and the quality of her education. This summer, I hope to develop a better understanding about the interconnected SDGs and to learn about ways to better advocate for women’s rights and public health.
