My name is Myra Karavelioglu. I am an 18-year-old from New Jersey, USA. Having lived in both Turkey and America has given me a major insight into the influence of religion and culture in politics as I have grown up comparing the two countries.
This attention I gave to comparing the political dynamics of Turkey and the USA has led to my passion for social, economic, and environmental policy and change. I am passionate about education equality and expansion, eco-friendly infrastructure, the importance of volunteer culture, voting rights, the refugee crisis, and many other topics.
I hope for TOU to expose me to information about the UN, NGOs, and other organizations that inspire me and could be potential career opportunities. I hope to learn both from my fellow interns from around the world and from TOU, especially about interfaith education and the role it can play in bringing communities together.
