For the upcoming Summit of the Future, international lawyer Vicki- Ann Assevero will be joining Grove Harris in representing the Temple of Understanding.
What is the Summit of the Future?
The Summit is a high-level event that brings world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how to deliver a better present and safeguard the future.
Effective global cooperation is increasingly critical to our survival but difficult to achieve in an atmosphere of mistrust, using outdated structures that no longer reflect today’s political and economic realities.
This once-in-a-generation opportunity serves as a moment to mend eroded trust and demonstrate that international cooperation can effectively achieve agreed goals and tackle emerging threats and opportunities.
According to her bio, Vicki-Ann Assevero is an accomplished international lawyer, advocate, and social entrepreneur with longstanding expertise in sustainable development. A former partner at Holland Knight, she represented multinational energy companies, international organizations, and many developing countries in their relations with IFIs and private investors.
Vicki founded The Green Market Santa Cruz in 2012 as an experiment in community-based sustainable development. In 2016, the UNEP recognized the Green Market as an example of integrated sustainable development in practice. She maintains a deep commitment to fostering food and nutritional security.
She has submitted an intervention that, in part, says:
The conditions necessary for the SDGs fulfillment involve two imperatives: the integration of civil society into global governance and the progressing of inner development goals(IDGs).
The IDGs represent qualities and character skills to be learned and cultivated by people who are working for a more sustainable, just, and healthy world. The IDGs have been co-created through the Club of Rome and Earth4All into a separate platform. “We cannot achieve the SDGs unless we cultivate the IDGs”. The truth of this statement cannot be overemphasized: without the elevated consciousness of people who practice compassion, self-awareness, deep listening, and foresighting, it will be impossible to dislodge the entrenched paradigms of human interactions—whether interpersonal or interstate.

The Temple of Understanding recognizes multiple pathways to spiritual growth and consciousness change, including better understanding of science and the profound interconnectedness of all of life.
